Setting Up AirPlay on Vizio TV

Apple AirPlay lets you wirelessly stream content from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to your Vizio SmartCast TV. You can cast videos, mirror your screen, share photos, and play music through your TV speakers. This guide covers setup and troubleshooting for all compatible Vizio models.

Vizio TV AirPlay Compatibility

AirPlay 2 is available on Vizio SmartCast TVs from 2016 and later. To check if your Vizio supports AirPlay:

1. Press the Menu button on your remote
2. Go to System
3. Look for Apple AirPlay in the menu

Compatible Models Include:

• OLED Series (all models)
• P-Series Quantum (2018 and later)
• P-Series (2016 and later)
• M-Series Quantum (2019 and later)
• M-Series (2016 and later)
• V-Series (2019 and later)

Step 1: Enable AirPlay on Vizio TV

1. Press the Home button on your Vizio remote
2. Navigate to Extras (or SmartCast)
3. Select Apple AirPlay
4. Toggle AirPlay to On

Configure AirPlay Settings

In the AirPlay menu, you can customize:

• Device Name - Change how your TV appears to Apple devices
• Require Code - Set security options (First Time Only, Every Time, or Use Password)
• Subtitles & Captioning - Adjust caption preferences

Step 2: Connect Your Apple Device

From iPhone or iPad

1. Ensure your iPhone/iPad is on the same WiFi network as your Vizio TV
2. Open Control Center (swipe down from top-right on newer iPhones, or swipe up on older models)
3. Tap the Screen Mirroring icon
4. Select your Vizio TV from the list
5. Enter the code displayed on your TV (if prompted)

Cast Video from Apps

Many apps support direct AirPlay casting:

1. Open an app (Netflix, YouTube, Apple TV+, Photos)
2. Start playing video content
3. Look for the AirPlay icon (rectangle with triangle)
4. Tap it and select your Vizio TV

From Mac Computer

1. Click the Control Center icon in your menu bar
2. Click Screen Mirroring
3. Select your Vizio TV
4. Choose to mirror your display or extend it

Alternative method:

1. Go to System Preferences > Displays
2. Click Add Display

Screen Mirroring

Mirror your entire screen to show exactly what's on your Apple device:

Video Streaming

Audio Only

Photo Sharing

1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone/iPad
2. Select a photo or start a slideshow
3. Tap the Share button

Apple HomeKit Setup (Optional)

Adding your Vizio TV to HomeKit allows Siri control and Home app integration.

Add to Home App

1. Open the Home app on your iPhone
2. Tap + then Add Accessory
3. Select your Vizio TV
4. Follow the on-screen setup

Siri Commands

Once added to HomeKit:

• "Hey Siri, turn on the living room TV"
• "Hey Siri, play jazz music on my TV"
• "Hey Siri, turn off all TVs"

Troubleshooting AirPlay Issues

Vizio TV Not Appearing in AirPlay List

• Confirm both devices are on the same WiFi network
• Restart both your TV and Apple device
• Check that AirPlay is enabled in TV settings
• Update your Vizio TV firmware
• Update your Apple device to the latest iOS/macOS

Connection Drops or Stutters

• Move your router closer to both devices
• Reduce WiFi interference from other devices
• Switch to 5GHz WiFi band if available
• Restart your WiFi router

No Audio When Casting

• Check TV volume and mute settings
• Verify audio output settings on your Apple device
• Try disconnecting and reconnecting AirPlay
• Check that the content has audio

Code Entry Issues

• Enter the code quickly before it expires
• Try setting AirPlay security to "First Time Only"
• Restart the TV if codes keep failing

Video Quality Is Poor

• Check your internet speed (25+ Mbps recommended for 4K)
• Close other bandwidth-heavy applications
• Use video streaming instead of screen mirroring for better quality
• Reduce distance between devices and router
