Troubleshooting Antenna Issues

No Channels Found

  • Verify antenna is properly connected
  • Move antenna to different location or higher position
  • Try pointing antenna in different directions
  • Check if you're too far from broadcast towers (use antennaweb.org)
  • Consider a stronger/outdoor antenna

Few Channels Received

  • Reposition antenna toward broadcast towers
  • Place antenna near or on a window
  • Reduce interference from electronics
  • Use an amplified antenna for weak signals
  • Re-scan channels after repositioning

Pixelated or Breaking Up Picture

  • Signal is weak - adjust antenna position
  • Check for obstructions between antenna and towers
  • Weather may affect reception temporarily
  • Try a different antenna location
  • Consider an amplified or outdoor antenna

Channels Disappearing

  • Weather changes can affect reception
  • Nearby interference (new electronics, construction)
  • Re-scan periodically to update channel list
  • Check antenna connection is secure

No Sound on Some Channels

  • Try changing to a different channel and back
  • Check TV audio settings
  • Some subchannels may have audio issues
  • Re-scan channels

Improving Reception

Antenna Positioning Tips

  • Height matters - Higher placement improves reception
  • Window placement - Less obstruction for signal
  • Direction - Point toward broadcast towers
  • Avoid interference - Keep away from WiFi routers, microwaves

When to Use an Amplifier

Consider an amplified antenna if:

  • You're 30+ miles from broadcast towers
  • Using a long cable run (50+ feet)
  • Splitting signal to multiple TVs
  • Reception is consistently weak

Check Tower Locations

  1. Visit antennaweb.org or rabbitears.info
  2. Enter your address
  3. See which channels you can receive
  4. Get antenna recommendation for your location

Managing Antenna Channels

Edit Channel List

Remove unwanted channels:

  1. Go to Settings > Live TV > Channel Management
  2. Select channels to hide or remove
  3. Save your changes

Add Favorites

  1. While watching a channel, press Menu or Options
  2. Select Add to Favorites
  3. Access favorites from the channel guide

Antenna vs Cable

  • Antenna (OTA) - Free after antenna purchase, local channels only, HD quality
  • Cable - Monthly fee, more channels, varies in quality

Many cord-cutters combine antenna for local channels with streaming services.
